PTSD is a condition involving the stress response system, which can develop following a traumatic event or a sustained traumatic time period. Symptoms may not appear for years, or may come and go, and may include: intrusive thoughts, anxiety, withdrawal, inability to sleep, hyper-vigilance, pain, and more. An estimated one-third of veterans from all combat theaters suffer from PTSD symptoms, whether or not formally diagnosed. Suicide and reckless PTSD-related behaviors are leading causes of death among veterans who served in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Yoga & meditation can help. Focusing your awareness on the breath, physical postures, and the body creates changes in the brain that help to calm the nervous system, reducing the body's stress response. Men & women from their 20s through 70s, who served in Vietnam, Bosnia, Somalia, Iraq, and Afghanistan, have attended our classes.
